The match, set for Friday, 19 February at Bukhungu Stadium, will open the round 21 fixtures as the 2009 league champions visit the Kakamega-based side.
In a gesture of respect and remembrance, Homeboyz have waived all gate charges to allow fans to join in giving Abungana a fitting farewell.
In an official statement shared on their social media platforms, the 2023 Mozzart Bet Cup winners wrote:
"𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄: In honour of Silas Abungana, tomorrow's match will not be charged. The match will be absolutely 𝐅𝐑𝐄𝐄. Let's turn up in our numbers to give our departed brother a befitting send-off. Forever in our hearts, Silas."
Beyond the tribute, maximum points will be at stake for the 2023 Mozzart Bet Cup winners, who aim to reduce their deficit on league leaders Gor Mahia to just nine points.
The clash promises to be both a competitive showdown and an emotional gathering for the Homeboyz faithful.
Abungana, who joined Homeboyz at the start of the season on 5 September, quickly established himself as a central figure in the team's defense after making his debut in November 2025 in Homeboyz's 2-0 win over Posta Rangers.
Tragically, Abungana passed away on 5 February following a fatal head injury caused by a blunt object, which led to blood clots on his brain, the main cause of his untimely demise.
According to the burial itinerary, Abungana’s remains will be moved from Kakamega County General Mortuary shortly after the Sofapaka clash and taken to Bukhungu Stadium for a public viewing where fans, friends, and teammates will have the opportunity to pay their respects as part of the defender’s final send-off.
The procession will then continue to his hometown in Itenyi Sub-Location, Muranda Ward, where he will be laid to rest on Saturday, 21 February.
