Sassuolo beat Juventus 4-2 in a crazy game in Reggio Emilia
Sassuolo handed Juventus their first defeat of the season in an action-packed 4-2 victory. The Neroverdi had to take the lead on three occasions to fend off a resilient Bianconeri, who insisted on shooting themselves in the foot every chance they got.
Massimiliano Allegri's decision to name an unchanged starting XI for Juventus, breaking a streak of 112 games with no changes since 2021, raised eyebrows. However, Sassuolo started the match strongly and opened the scoring before the 15-minute mark. Armand Lauriente picked up the ball on the left wing, cut inside towards the box, and took a shot on goal. Wojciech Szczesny, the Juventus goalkeeper, seemed to have it under control, but he mishandled it, parrying the ball into the back of the net.

Despite falling behind, Juventus did not panic, sticking to their gameplan. They equalized midway through the first half when Federico Chiesa's well-placed cross towards the far post was turned into his own net by Matias Vina, who was under pressure from Weston McKennie. Unfazed by the equalizer, Sassuolo continued to press, and just as Szczesny made a brilliant save to deny Ruan Tressoldi, he could do nothing to stop Domenico Berardi's clinical first-time shot from the edge of the box, giving Sassuolo the lead going into halftime.
Juventus came out aggressively in the second half, seeking a second equalizer. Chiesa came close to restoring parity with a cleverly taken low free-kick that narrowly missed the bottom corner, deceiving the Sassuolo wall and goalkeeper Alessio Cragno. Sassuolo seemed to have weathered the storm from Juventus and started looking dangerous on the counter. They should have added a third goal when Berardi played a sublime through ball to Lauriente, who had only the goalkeeper to beat but somehow skied his effort.

Alessio Dionisi's team paid for that miss as Juventus drew level for the second time of the evening. Once again, Chiesa played a crucial role, this time scoring with a deflected effort that eluded Cragno. However, there was one more twist as Sassuolo took the lead for the third time, and Szczesny was at fault once more. He parried Lauriente's shot right into the path of Andrea Pinamonti, who nodded it in. Juventus failed to respond for a third time, and Sassuolo secured the victory with the most embarrassing of own goals.
Federico Gatti inexplicably kicked the ball into his own net from around 30 meters out after receiving a pass from his goalkeeper, summarizing a miserable night for Allegri's team.
