Da'vian Kimbrough becomes the youngest player ever to play for a senior team, making his Sacramento Republic debut on Sunday night

"Adolescence can be a challenge for parents. Your youngster may, at times, be a source of frustration and exasperation, not to mention financial stress. But these years also bring many, many moments of joy, pride, laughter and closeness."

That's short yet descriptive explanation of the teenage years (12-19) we bumped on at the internet. It tells a lot about the youngsters of that age, but it seems those definitions need some update, especially considering the life of a 13-year-old American boy, Da'vian Kimbrough. This kid has - believe it or not - already made his first senior appearance for the US second-division side Sacramento Republic! Senior. An elementary school pupil. Wow...

On Sunday night, Kimbrough became the youngest person to play professional football in the United States, aged 13 years, seven months and 13 days!

His Sacramento Republic beat Las Vegas Lights 2-0, and the above-mentioned young man came on with three minutes left on the clock.

He has recently signed his first professional contract, making him also the youngest pro in any of the US major sports.

"A young player's path is never the same as the person seated next to them. Da'vian has shown tremendous focus, commitment and dedication, as well as a willingness to embrace the challenging road ahead of him," said Republic's head coach Mark Briggs.

"Over the last two years, he has demonstrated his tremendous potential, and our goal is to continue to support and help him grow as a player and person," he added.

In his two seasons in the MLS Next Youth competition, Kimbrough scored 61 goals in 81 appearances.

"Da'vian's journey with Republic FC is just beginning. He is a remarkable talent who has committed to his dream of becoming an elite player, from competing with players in older age groups and thriving at top competitions to stepping onto the first team training grounds," said Republic president and general manager Todd Dunivant.
