The Serb will sign an one year deal with an option for extension

Many Manchester United player have left, or about to leave Old Trafford this month, but few will find their new club so quickly as Nemanja Matić. Former Chelsea midfielder decided to call it quits and agreed with the Red Devils to go separate ways, and he is about to be reunited with the man who brought him to Manchester in the first place – Jose Mourinho.

Matic's transfer to Roma is the matter of days, if now hours, and this will be the third time that the Portuguese and the Serb will work together. After signing with Chelsea in 2009 while Carlo Anchelotti was the coach, Matić was used as a 'bait' to sign Benfica's David Luiz and went the other way in 2011, where he stayed until 2014, when Jose Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge and then transferred him back to London. The player and a coach had a good rapport because Matić got a transfer to Manchester United in 2017, you guessed it, when Mourinho took over the Red Devils.

So it is not a surprise when the former Serbian international was mentioned in the Italian press as one of the possible new Roma players, on the day he announced that he will leave Old Trafford. Matić ticks a lot of boxes: He knows Mourinho well, he is a free agent, he has lowered his wage demands and he is experienced (33), compared to most Roma's midfielders. According to Italian press, Matić will sign a one year deal with Roma, with an option for an automatic extension, in case he plays in a number of games during the season. Mourinho was interested to bring him to the Italian capital in January, but the deal failed and he brought Sergio Oliveira from Porto on a loan. The Portuguese international is now coming back home, as Mourinho didn't buy him, due to Matic's imminent arrival.
