The national team Harambee Stars held their first training session on Tuesday morning in Turkey ahead of next week’s international friendly match against Russia.
Portugual-based defender Johnstone Omurwa passed a last-minute fitness test and is expected to link up with the team later on Tuesday.
However, midfielder Ayub Timbe, who currently plays for Nanjing City, remains doubtful for the friendly as his club has not released him yet.
Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat said he is delighted by the availability of Omurwa, who underwent a scan on Monday to ascertain his fitness level.
"I am glad his scan came back okay. So he will come for this match,” Firat said.
Regarding Timbe, the Kenyan coach said they are having problems getting him released and are not sure about his availability.
Firat further said he has not thought about any replacement at the moment as he is still monitoring the situation.
“Until we know 100% of the situation, there are no further changes to the team as it is,” he added.
The second batch of players left Nairobi on Tuesday morning to join the first batch, and the team will only be at full house tomorrow, when everyone is expected to have arrived.
Harambee Stars are camping in Antalya for one week ahead of the Russia friendly in two months. Last month, Harambee Stars beat Qatar 2-1 in Doha but lost 1-0 to South Sudan at home.
Russia is ranked 39th in the world according to the latest FIFA ranking, making them the highest-ranked side that the Stars have ever played.
