Harambee Starlets and Kenya U17 team fly out for friendly matches

The Kenya U17 team is gearing up for the final round of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon later this month.

The Harambee Starlets and the Kenya U17 girl’s team left the country on Wednesday morning for Ivory Coast and Morocco, respectively, where they will participate in friendly matches.

The Starlets have two scheduled fixtures against Ivory Coast, with the first match set for Friday and the second on Tuesday next week. Both games will kick off at 10 PM EAT. These matches serve as preparation for their upcoming WAFCON qualifier against Gambia later this year.

“Our goal with these friendlies is to assess our progress, pinpoint areas for improvement, and strengthen our team. That’s why I’ve made only minimal changes to the squad from the Tunisia camp—to get a clearer picture of where we stand,” said head coach Beldine Odemba.

Meanwhile, the Junior Starlets are in Morocco for a similar assignment, where they will play two friendlies against the host nation. Their first match is set for Friday, followed by another clash on Monday, both kicking off at 7 PM EAT.

The Kenya U17 team is gearing up for the final round of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon later this month. The first leg will take place on April 20, with the return fixture scheduled a week later.

Junior Starlets head coach Mildred Cheche emphasized the significance of these friendlies as the team prepares for their crucial qualifier.

“Our ultimate goal is to qualify for the World Cup, and these matches are crucial in helping us build a strong, competitive team. Cameroon is a formidable opponent, so we need to be at our best,” she stated.
