Seal hosted K'Ogalo in a league match on Sunday, 18 May, at the St. Sebastian Park, Murang'a, a match that ended in a barren draw.

After the encounter, which ended in frustration for the 21-time league champions, a few fans in Gor Mahia jerseys were captured in a clip, assaulting another supporter who was in Seal’s colours as they were leaving the stadium.

The video has since gone viral in football circles, with the majority of viewers calling for the arrest of the perpetrators and possible sanctions for the club.

Gor Mahia, through club Vice Chairperson, Sally Bolo, has issued a statement, equally condemning the unfortunate act.

“It’s deeply disheartening to witness a few unruly individuals tarnish the beautiful game and the proud legacy of our beloved club, Gor Mahia.

Football is a force meant to unite, inspire, and entertain; not to divide or incite violence,” reads part of Bolo’s statement on Facebook.

Bolo also confirmed that investigations are ongoing with the aim of bringing to book those captured assaulting other fans.

“As a club, we remain firmly committed to preserving the true spirit of the game rooted in respect, unity, and passion.

We have already initiated investigations into the unfortunate incident, and we will ensure that those responsible are held fully accountable,” she added.

The former Gor Mahia treasurer went ahead to propose solutions for curbing the cases of hooliganism in all the club's matches.

“To our branches, fans, and loyal supporters: let us all be custodians of peace. We should uphold law and order, watch out for each other, and step in when we see anyone attempting to bring chaos to our matches.

Self-policing and collective responsibility are key if we are to put an end to the unacceptable behaviour witnessed in the viral video after our match against Murang’a Seal,” the statement continued.

In the end, the experienced football administrator called for fans to uphold the values of the game of football.

“Let’s protect what we love. The game is bigger than any one of us, and it must remain safe, inclusive, and worthy of the passion it inspires.”
