Anthony Akumu's Sagan Tosu suffered a 2-0 defeat to Jubilo Iwata in the J-Cup

Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama helped CF Montreal beat Forge FC 2-0 in the first leg of the Canadian Championship semifinal held at the Saputo Stadium on Thursday morning.

Wanyama lasted on the pitch in either half as Montreal made the most of the home advantage to win the first leg of the semifinal.

Forge, managed to hold the host to a barren draw in the first half but couldn’t withstand pressure from Montreal who breached their defence twice in the final stanza.

Ariel Lassiter gave Montreal the lead in the 54th minute after he was put through by Nigerian Sunusi Ibrahim who put the man of the match performance as he accounted for a goal and an assist.

Ibrahim capped his impressive show by doubling the advantage for Montreal in the 78th minute.

Should Montreal prevail in the second leg, they will have a date with Vancouver Whitecaps in the final.

Meanwhile, Stars midfielder Anthony Akumu was left licking wounds as his side Sagan Tosu fell 2-0 to Jubilo Iwata in a J-Cup group stage match played at the Ekimae Real Estate Stadium on Wednesday.

Okumu tasted action in the final twenty-one minutes of the game but his presence on the pitch did little to inspire Tosu to a comeback.

The former Kaizer Chiefs player who was cautioned in the 84th minute had replaced Japanese national Toshio Shimakawa.

Iwata, went ahead in the 32nd minute through Fabian Gonzalez and would put the result beyond the reach of Tosu in the 76th minute when Shota Kaneko added the second goal.
