Going back to Germany after only 137 minutes?

Niclas Fullkurg is apparently on his way out of West Ham

Either they don't know how to buy a center forward, or they don’t know how to properly utilize the players they bring into their squad. There’s no third option. It seems that West Ham has once again missed the mark with a striker. Niclas Füllkrug (31), who was bought from Borussia Dortmund this summer for a substantial 27 million euros, has played only 137 minutes across four games this season, making it quite likely he’ll be looking for a new club as soon as the January transfer window opens.

According to Kicker, Füllkrug has been struggling with injuries. He missed six matches for the Hammers due to an Achilles tendon irritation. But even if he were healthy, it’s questionable how much playing time he’d actually get. The German outlet reports that the experienced forward hasn’t met the expectations of Julen Lopetegui, and the only thing that might save him or keep him in London would be a change in management. According to the German newspapers, the club can’t specify when Füllkrug will be back on the pitch, and with West Ham struggling this October—especially in front of goal—Lopetegui has asked for a new striker.

The club which won the Conference League in 2023 and the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1965, has invested nearly120 million in strikers over the past five years. They paid Eintracht Frankfurt €50 million for Sébastien Haller, Sassuolo 39 million for Gianluca Scamacca, and nearly 30 million to Dortmund for Füllkrug… yet none have met expectations. Instead, the "number nine" position has frequently been filled by Antonio, who originally joined the club as an attacking full-back. Although nothing is set in stone—perhaps the arrival of Edin Terzić in London could change things—everything suggests that Niclas Füllkrug will pack his bags much sooner than Scamacca and Haller did.
