Ghost's record as Harambee Stars coach

On Wednesday evening, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) announced that it had parted ways with the national team head coach, Jacob Ghost Mulee, his assistant Twahir Muhiddin and Hagai Azande.

His departure came after an unimpressive start to the 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifiers. Kenya drew its first two matches of the qualification against Uganda and Rwanda and a section of the supporters immediately called on his sacking. Most were particularly not impressed by the team’s overall performance in the two outings.

We take a look at how Ghost performed in the match he was in charge of the national team. The veteran tactician returned to the helm of Stars in October 2020 following the departure of Francis Kimanzi who had been in charge for roughly a year. Ghost was in charge of Stars for eight games between November 2020 and September 2021.

He started his new reign with a one-all draw against Comoros in an AFCON qualifier before losing to the same opponent 2-1 in the return leg. The results in the two games ended Kenya’s hopes of qualifying for the biannual tournament that will staged in Cameroon in 2021.

Ghost then registered back to back wins in friendlies against South Sudan and Tanzania. Kenya defeated South Sudan 1-0 before beating Tanzania 2-1 with both games played at the Nyayo National Stadium. He then followed it with a 1-1 draw against Egypt in an AFCON qualifier before beating Togo 2-1 in a dead rubber African tourney qualification match. His final two games were a barren draw and a one-all draw against Uganda and Rwanda respectively in the World Cup qualifiers.
