The Brewers have since appointed Frenchman Julien Mette as the new head coach, with Anthony 'Modo' Kimani named as assistant coach.

Immediate former Tusker FC assistant coach George Maina has broken his silence following his departure from the 12-time FKF Premier League champions, describing his exit as painful but part of the realities of football.

Maina left the Brewers alongside coach Charles Okere after last Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Mathare United, a result that cranked up pressure on the technical bench and prompted changes at the club.

Taking to social media, Maina reflected on his time at Tusker in an emotional statement.

“Leaving a place I have always called and will forever call home is never easy. But this is the reality of coaching. We serve, we give our all, and we accept the moments as they come.

“Football, however, is unpredictable, and life often demands difficult decisions. It has been a challenging season, and as is the nature of our game, changes had to be made. That means my journey with the club has, for now, come to an end.”

Maina’s departure is particularly significant given his long-standing history with the club, both as a player and a coach.

He began his playing career at Tusker, then known as Kenya Breweries, in 1994 and remained at the club until his retirement in 2001.

After hanging up his boots, he transitioned into coaching and took charge of the Tusker Youth team before rising through the ranks.

In 2010, he served as assistant coach under James Nandwa and later worked in the same capacity under Sammy 'Pamzo' Omollo and Robert Matano between 2011 and 2014.

Maina returned to the club once again in May 2021 as assistant coach to Matano, underlining his deep-rooted ties with the Brewers.

His latest exit comes amid a torrid campaign for Tusker, who have struggled for consistency this season, losing eight of their 20 matches and slipping to ninth place on the FKF Premier League table with 28 points, 15 behind leaders Gor Mahia.

Separately, Okere also confirmed his departure, bringing to an end a journey that saw him rise from assistant coach in 2018 to head coach of the senior team. His final match in charge was the defeat to Mathare United at the Police Sacco Grounds.

In his own statement, Okere reflected on his time at the club.

“Every journey has its season, and mine with Tusker FC has now come to an end. Since arriving in 2018 as an assistant coach, this club has been more than just a workplace; it has been family.

Together, we celebrated two league titles, overcame countless challenges, and built memories that will remain with me for a lifetime.”

Tusker have since appointed Frenchman Julien Mette as the new head coach, with Anthony 'Modo' Kimani named as assistant coach.

Mette now faces the task of reviving Tusker’s league campaign and steering the Brewers back into contention in the closing stages of the season.
