Gad Mathews confident of Gor Mahia’s CAFCC chances

The last time Gor Mahia featured in the Confederation Cup was back in the 2018-2019 season
After failing to qualify for the two previous editions of the CAF Confederation Cup, Gor Mahia custodian Gad Mathews believes the club will make a return to the interclub tourney's group stage.
K’Ogalo will kickstart their qualifiers against Sudanese side Al-Ahly Merowe in the Second Preliminary Round after getting a bye in the previous stage to their strong coefficient ranking in the tournament.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Gad highlighted the hunger in the Gor Mahia squad to play in Africa’s second-tier club competition noting that the team is hoping for a positive result in Egypt.
“I believe we can get to the Group Stages of the competition, in the squad that we have currently everyone wants to play at that level and make a step ahead after last season’s heartbreak,”
“We have been focusing on scoring and also keeping our shape and getting a clean sheet that will give us an upper hand when we play our home game,” said Gad.
The first leg is slated for Friday 15 October at the New Suez Stadium in Suez, Egypt after CAF failed to approve any stadium in Sudan.
The former Wazito FC custodian added that the league taking an 18-day break helped them with preparations for the game and promise to give their all to ensure the new players who were not registered play in the next round.

“The break has helped us, at least we have worked on some of the areas that we have been lacking, we are trying to push for a positive result away from home in the first leg because we have had decent preparations for the game,”
“We would have loved to have the new players for the Friday match but we will do our best to ensure that they also play in the coming matches,” added Gad.
