Experinced Bandari midfielder has been out of action since January when he fractured his limb

Industrious Bandari winger Shaban Kenga is set to spend the rest of the year on the sidelines despite recovering from a leg fracture suffered in January.

Kenga broke his limb while in action against Western Stima who have since rebranded to Kisumu United and was subsequently ruled out for four months after going under the knife at the Jocham Hospital in Mombasa.

However, the long serving player at the club did not recover in line with the schedule and watched the past season which he hoped to grace the final rounds of it from the stands.

Kenga says he was given the green light to resume full training in the pre-season but after further assessment, he revealed that the doctor broke the sad news after he barred him from competitive football pending the removal of the surgical screws.

The attacking midfielder disclosed that the doctor told him the earliest the screws will be extracted from his body is December and thus will return to active football next year.

"I recovered fully few months ago and even joined the rest of the team in training. I would run, kick the ball and tackle without feeling any pain. The doctor however assessed me recently and told me there are surgical screws that must be removed if I am to play football again. He said much as I am comfortable with them, it is risky considering the state of our pitches and physical nature of our game, " he narrated.

With the latest development, the former Gor Mahia player will certainly have to spend a year out of active football however he is grateful that the Bandari family have been offering him a shoulder to lean on.

He lauded his teammates and management of the club for being part of his journey to recovery and vowed to come back stronger and help the club win titles.

"Handling the effects that tagged along with the injury has been easier for me as the club has supported me throughout. The players have been amazing and have developed an habit of checking on me regularly. I can not thank the family enough but will do everything when I am finally cleared to play, " he added.
