Mathare were relegated in May for dishing three walkovers

Former Mathare United forward Eugene Wethuli is appealing to top flight clubs to look his way and acquire his services ahead of the new season.

Wethuli announced his departure from Mathare last week, adding to the swelling list of senior players exiting the troubled club that sunk to the second tier after dishing three walkovers in the past season.

The 2008 Kenyan champions have been losing their best players recently sending a clear indication that the technical bench will have to build a new team in the new season.

Wethuli who joined Mathare in November 2020 from Nairobi Stima regretted that he had not attracted solid offers, forcing him to take matters into own hands by courting potential suitors directly.

The burly striker said there were interests from Nzoia Sugar and Kakamega Homeboyz but the two sides had not tabled offers. Nzoia are understood to be looking for a new forward after Levis Okello joined Homeboyz.

" I left Mathare on mutual agreement last week. I had also entered the final months of my deal with them. I have been looking for a new home from the time the season came to an end but my efforts haven't yielded fruits. I pray that I will get a deal on time and have good preparation for the new season, " he said.

Meanwhile, Wethuli thanked Division One outfit Nairobi United for giving him the platform to keep fit from the time Mathare halted it's training programs in April.

Nairobi United is under the tutelage of former Kenyan international and Posta Rangers right back Simon Mbugua. Before the latter joined United, he served as the head coach at Ruiru Hotstars.
