The former Gor Mahia striker confirmed his appointment in an exclusive interview with Mozzart Sport, revealing his decision was driven by the desire for personal and professional growth.

"I can reveal that I have joined Kagera Sugar as the new club CEO. I am truly excited and honoured to take up this new challenge. Transitioning to Kagera Sugar FC is a fresh chapter that I welcome with a lot of enthusiasm," he confirmed.

His move comes at a time which the Bukoba-based club, which was relegated to the Tanzanian second-tier after finishing second from bottom in the 2024/25 NBC Premier League season with just 23 points is seeking promotion.

Okoth replaces Thabity Kandoro, whose contract expired at the end of the season and was not renewed.

In a statement dated July 4, 2025, Kagera Sugar expressed gratitude to Kandoro for his service and affirmed their commitment to strengthening club structures ahead of the new campaign.

"The club has officially reached an agreement not to renew the contract of Mr. Thabity Kandoro following the conclusion of the 2024/25 Premier League season,” the club's communication department announced. “We thank him for his contribution and wish him well in his future endeavours,” added the club.

Okoth's leadership at Sofapaka will be remembered for steering the club through two transformative seasons.

In his debut year, he played a key role in helping Batoto Ba Mungu retain their FKF Premier League status through the playoffs.

His second season saw the club defy expectations with a commendable seventh-place finish, marking one of their best performances in recent years.

Reflecting on his departure, Okoth said the decision to leave Sofapaka was not an easy one.

"While it is always emotional leaving a club like Sofapaka, where I have had memorable moments, I feel this move is the right step at the right time in my career. It is an opportunity to bring in new ideas, rebuild, and make a tangible impact both on and off the pitch,” he said.

As he begins his new role, Okoth will be tasked with reviving Kagera Sugar’s fortunes and guiding the club back to the Tanzanian top-flight league.
