Former AFC Leopards defender Tedian Esilaba has called to task the club management amid a recent series of poor performances from the former Kenya Premier League champions.
AFC Leopards find themselves in unfamiliar territory, seven games into the season, and are yet to win a match this term; a result that leaves them seventeenth on the log joint on points with bottom-placed Sofapaka FC.
Esilaba, who joined Ingwe in February 2021 from Nairobi City Stars, departed the den in the last player registration window following an injury-laden career at the Big Cats that limited his appearances for the 12-time FKF Premier League champions. The Leopards opted against offering him a new deal.
The central defender has questioned AFC’s ability to cope without a sponsor on board further insinuating that the oldest club in the country is living on past glory and has not made any developments since inception.
"Can AFC Leopards SC stand on its own without a sponsor for even a month? If not, we are lying to ourselves calling ourselves a BIG BRAND but in a real sense, we are just basking in past glory. We've never made any steps in terms of development since the time memorial. We are doing the same thing every day expecting different results," he posed on his socials.
His critique is further directed to the club’s supporters, emphasizing the need for uncompromising standards and avoidance of double standards when pushing the club to its limits. The stopper supplementary says Ingwe's problems start with fans who instead of advocating for good structures at the club are always pointing fingers at each other.
“Fair weather fans will never take the initiative to push the management to lay the right structures and attributes for the success of the club at large. I believe we have the answers as fans but we are so hypocritical and our own enemy. Stop pointing fingers and point it to yourself/ourselves because YOU/ WE ARE THE CANCER!" He added.
Esilaba's rant comes at a time when the Leopards are preparing for a crunch fixture against Nzoia Sugar FC on Sunday at the Sudi Stadium in Bungoma with defeat likely to relegate Ingwe to the bottom of the league.
