Gor Mahia lead the standings with 67 points with two rounds left to play
What are the possible ways the 2022-23 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) title can be won with just two rounds of fixtures to the finish line?
To answer the question, let's first look at the teams left with realistic chance(s) of lifting the coveted trophy.
A critical look at the table standings, only log leaders Gor Mahia with 67 points, Tusker (65), and Nzoia Sugar (63) can still lay claim to the title.
But how?
Nzoia Sugar
For the Millers to win their maiden title this season, they will have to win both their remaining games against KCB and Sofapaka.
Yet, with a four-point gap between them and Gor Mahia, their fate is not in their hands, and they will have to pray that K'Ogalo does not pick maximum points in any of their remaining matches and the Brewers fail to pick all points in both matches.
Far fetched?
Tusker
After losing to Wazito FC 2-1 on Sunday, the Brewers complicated their lives a little, but they remain a serious challenger to the throne.
For the 12-time champions to add to their tally this season, they will have to rely on forces within and beyond their reach.
First, coach Robert Matano's side will have to pick at least four points from Posta Rangers and Vihiga Bullets respectively to move beyond Nzoia's reach and pray that Gor Mahia does not win any further games.
Tusker's dream, put more plainly, will depend on Gor Mahia not winning at least a game, as they (Tusker) beat their remaining two opponents. Nothing more or less.
Gor Mahia
It's more direct for the record 19-time Kenyan champions. Win the remaining two games and you're home and dry.
K'Ogalo could even lift the trophy on points difference by picking four points from the pending fixtures against Kakamega Homeboyz and Nairobi City Stars.
The coach Johnathan McKinstry's side's fate is firmly in their hands after beating Ulinzi Stars 2-0 over the weekend.
