FKFPL: Sofapaka FC bounce back with a statement win over KCB, Police loss in Mombasa

Two quick second half goals were enough for Sofapaka to seal the win

Sofapaka got back to winning ways on Wednesday afternoon beating an inconsistent Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB FC) 3-0 in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) game staged at the Kasarani Annex.

Heading into the match, Sofapaka had managed one win in the previous eight matches and were from a 1-0 loss to Tusker FC over the weekend which had aggravated concerns from the club supporters.

New acquisition Khalid Jumaan got the ball rolling seizing an early initiative for the 2009 Kenya Premier League champions in the 13th minute a lead the Ezekiel Akwana instructed side held on to the breather.

Fiston Abdul Razak’s and Amos Asembeka's 57th and 64th minute strikes were enough for the Batoto ba Mungu to confirm their second win of the 2023-2024 FKF-PL season and take them out of the bottom of the log for the first time this season.

Murang’a Seal 2-1 Nairobi City Stars

While it was a good day in the office for Sofapaka, Nairobi City Stars suffered their third defeat in four matches as they were outshined 2-1 by league debutants Murang’a Seal in a match played at St. Sebastian Park.

Titus Kipchanga and Dennis Maruti were on target each for the 2022-2023 National Super League runners up while Robin Asenwa scored a consolation for the Simba Wa Nairobi in a match that also had City Stars hot shot Kevin Etemsei sent off.

The win lifts Murang’a to third on the log tied on points with second-placed Gor Mahia though outdone on goal difference.

Bandari 3-2 Kenya Police

It wasn't the best day either for Kenya Police who succumbed to their second defeat in three matches as a wounded Bandari bounced back from the Posta Rangers weekend blues with a heavy 3-2 obliteration of the law enforcers in a match played at Mbaraki Sports Club, Mombasa.

On the song, Derrick Nsibambi, Burundian Shassir Nahimana, and a maiden goal from Beja Nyamawi ensured the dockers picked all three points to move them eight on the league standings.

AFC Leopards 0-0 Kariobangi Sharks

At Ulinzi Complex, Leopards were far better than the weekend team that shocked Nzoia Sugar at Sudi Stadium to pick the first win of the season as they battled to a barren draw against Kariobangi Sharks.

The stalemate was the Big Cats' eighth game of the term that the former premier league champions have failed to win however it lifts the club to fourteenth on the standings after nine rounds.

Tusker 0-1 Ulinzi Stars

Boniface Muchiri returned home to stun his former side and add more misery to the Robert Matano-coached side as his 25th-minute goal affirmed all points for the soldiers and relegated the brewers to eleventh with three wins from the opening nine rounds.

Shabana 0-1 Gor Mahia

Shabana FC woeful run since thier return to the top flight secene continued as Rooney Onyango's 90+8 maiden goal for the green army condemned the Glamour Boys to teir fourth defaet of the season and further demote them to seveteenth on the league standings.
