FKFPL: Posta down Talanta to end six-match winless run

Talanta, after their tenth loss, are now looking behind their shoulders with relegation still a possibility

Posta Rangers on Tuesday ended their five-match winless run in the league (six in all competitions) after securing a 1-0 victory over struggling FC Talanta in a FKF Premier League rescheduled fixture at Dandora Stadium.

Striker Patrick Otieno came up with the decisive goal shortly after the half-hour mark, sealing the Mailmen’s 12th win of the season that takes them sixth on the log with 42 points.

The win was also coach Bernard Kawinzi’s first at the club, after being promoted to the role in the absence of John Kamau early April.

Posta Rangers had been in a poor run of form since mid- February, when they last won a game against Ulinzi Stars, but now earn a morale-boosting victory and a somewhat of a revenge after falling to Talanta last year in what was their first loss in a very promising season.

Talanta, on the other hand, dropped their second consecutive game after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Nairobi City Stars last time out, and are now staring at potential relegation.

Jackson Gatheru’s side is after 28 games just two points ahead of Shabana and 16th placed Sofapaka, who occupy the relegation-promotion playoff spot.

Talanta will be looking behind their shoulders with caution as they still have to play AFC Leopards, Gor Mahia and KCB in an exciting six-match run-in that also has match-ups against Shabana and Muhoroni Youth - also seeking to avoid the drop.
