The former Police FC striker was on the mark as KCB put AFC Leopards to the sword on Friday afternoon

KCB striker Derrick Otanga is elated after scoring his first goal of the season in Friday’s 1-0 win against AFC Leopards at the Kasarani Main Stadium

Otanga said the goal will inspire him in coming matches even as he pointed out that it has given him a great start to the season.

“In my experience, I never start the season well. Normally I struggle in the first leg and the goals just start coming in the second leg. This goal has given me confidence to push in the coming matches,” he said.

He also paid tribute to his teammates for sticking to the match plan pointing out that the game was won in the midfield.

“We did well and stayed together following the coach’s instructions. He had warned us to ensure we don’t concede in the first ten minutes and after that we will can win the game. True to his words, Leopards came very strongly at us in the opening minutes of the match but we frustrated them and after we developed confidence that we can win the game,"

“All in all, the match was won in the midfield. This is where we outplayed them and overwhelmed them. This are very important three points and going into our next game we have the confidence to believe we can get an even better result.” He said.

Otanga said his dream is still to emerge the league’s top scorer at the end of this season and believes he has started on the right footing.

“I have settled well and everyone is delighted to have me back. We have some unfinished business which we will try and conclude this season.”

He was the league’s top scorer two seasons ago before turning professional in Libya but returned home after just four months. His first club was Kenya Police where he stayed for four months before leaving to look for more playing time.
