Several members have raised issues over FKF's failure to call for NEC meetings and an Annual General Meeting (AGM)
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is grappling with an escalating governance crisis, as multiple letters from its members express serious concerns about the failure to adhere to constitutional obligations. The focal point of this crisis is a letter from National Executive Committee (NEC) member Muriithi Nabea addressed to FIFA's Director of Member Associations (Africa), Mr. Gelson Fernandes.
Muriithi Nabea's Letter to FIFA
In a letter dated 22nd December 2023, Nabea, who represents the Eastern region of Kenya and serves as the Chairperson of the Federation's technical committee, outlined several critical issues.
Constitutional Mandates Ignored
Nabea highlighted the violation of FKF's constitution, specifically pointing out the failure to hold both general meetings and NEC meetings as mandated by Articles 13, 29, and 38(1).
Contracts and Appointments Without Approval
The letter detailed the Federation's engagement in contracts without the approval of the NEC, contravening Article 21(2) of the FKF Constitution. Additionally, coaching appointments to national teams occurred without NEC approval, a direct violation of Article 39(J).
Financial Transparency Lapses
Nabea raised concerns about the lack of financial transparency, emphasizing that the FKF had not convened a general meeting to table its annual budget or audited books of account for three years.
Appeal for FIFA's Intervention
Seeking FIFA's intervention, Nabea requested the immediate convening of an NEC meeting to scrutinize contracts, appoint independent auditors, discuss and approve FKF budgets, and table audited books of account for the past three years.
Other Letters
Amidst Nabea's plea to FIFA, other members have also voiced their concerns. Hon Dabar Ahmedqadar, another NEC member from the North Eastern region, wrote a letter demanding urgent action. Ahmedqadar expressed dismay over the scarcity of NEC meetings and the neglect of financial matters and activity planning. He insisted on the immediate convening of a NEC meeting to rectify these issues.

Further, a letter from Robert Macharia, Chairman of FKF Murang'a Branch, dated October 9, 2023, emphasized the disturbing delay in holding an Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the election of new office bearers. Macharia called for the immediate convening of the AGM to uphold the fidelity to the FKF constitution and the laws of the land.
