Firefighter who got burned: Spurs consider sacking Tudor after less than a month

Tottenham's "shock therapy" with the Croatian tactician has seriously failed, as the London side is even closer to relegation than before his arrival

Tottenham Hotspur and their head coach, Igor Tudor, could soon go down in Premier League history books, and the reason is far from positive.

Namely, according to The Telegraph, the North London side's management is considering sacking the Croatian tactician less than a month after his arrival. He took over the hot seat in the Spurs' dugout on February 13 as a firefighter, but seems to have been seriously burned.

Tudor was in charge for three Premier League games - three city derbies against Arsenal, Fulham, and Crystal Palace - and lost all of them, with a devastating goal difference of 3-9. Moreover, Micky van de Ven's disobedience during the North London Derby highlighted the Croat's lack of influence on a team in free fall.

And even though the 47-year-old strategist claimed after the latest loss to the Eagles that he "saw something" and that he believed in survival more than before the clash from two days ago, the public is very sceptical, and so apparently is the Spurs' board.

The Telegraph states that Tudor will definitely lead the team in the two-legged Champions League Round of 16 duel against Atletico Madrid in two days and on March 18, and (probably) in the following two EPL matches against Liverpool (March 15) and Nottingham Forest (March 22) - perhaps a key clash in the relegation battle.

However, if Tottenham stay on this downward spiral, parting with Tudor may come even sooner. At the moment, Sam Allardyce's 30-day stint with Leeds in 2023 is the shortest-ever managerial spell in the EPL, followed by Ange Postecoglou's 39-day term with Nottingham Forest last year.

The key question for Spurs management is who could replace the former Juventus boss, as hardly anyone would accept a short-term job with a completely devastated crew heading toward disaster.

The Telegraph claims the club's board has held talks with Roberto De Zerbi about his eventual appointment following the end of the season, though the Italian would accept the job only if the London side stays in the Premier League.

At the moment, it seems like a hell of a task for either Tudor or whoever potentially succeeds him.
