Manchester's co-owner caused quite a stir throughout the whole UK with his comments
Just as Manchester United‘s results finally got better since they appointed Michael Carrick interim manager (four wins and a draw), their co-owner stirred the water for all the wrong reasons. Sir Jim Ratcliffe's comments comments that UK is ‘been colonized by immigrants‘ got him a lot of bad comments. The prime minister of Great Britain, Manchester United, the fans…..everybody criticized him. And now, the Football Association will look at whether Ratcliffe has brought the game into disrepute by those claims.

Speaking in Brussels Mark Bullingham, the FA chief executive, refused to comment on the Ratcliffe row. “I can’t comment too much on that,” he said. Obviously it’s a matter that our legal and regulation team are working to” he said.
“You can’t have an economy with 9,000,000 people on welfare while also maintaining high levels of immigration. The United Kingdom has been colonized — it costs us a lot. Colonized by migrants, right? In 2020, we had 58,000,000 people; now it’s close to 70,000,000,” Ratcliffe said in an interview.
It provoked reactions from the Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who said that his comments are ‘offensive and wrong‘ and even United had to react.
“Our diverse group of players, staff and global community of supporters, reflect the history and heritage of Manchester; a city that anyone can call home. Since launching All Red All Equal in 2016, we have embedded equality, diversity and inclusion into everything we do. We remain deeply committed to the principles and spirit of that campaign. They are reflected in our policies but also in our culture and are reinforced by our holding of the Premier League’s Advanced Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Standard“ reads the statement.
After the fans also criticized their owner, Ratcliffe was forced to apologize.
"I am sorry that my choice of language has offended some people in the UK and Europe and caused concern, but it is important to raise the issue of controlled and well-managed immigration that supports economic growth. My intention was to stress that governments must manage migration alongside investment in skills, industry and jobs so that long-term prosperity is shared by everyone. It is critical that we maintain an open debate on the challenges facing the UK" he said. Will that be enough for the FA?
