Lucas Digne's days at Aston Villa will end soon
According to reports from French media today, Lucas Digne seems to be on the verge of departing Aston Villa this summer. Journalist Ignazio Genuardi shared on Twitter that the 30-year-old is drawing "closer and closer" to parting ways with Unai Emery's team.
If we manage to sell Digne to the Saudi league for more than we get Acuña for that's some great business. Digne is on a huge contract for a player not in Emery's plans. Acuña could play anywhere on the left + can operate as a LWB/LM in a 3 back which we have seen Emery use #AVFC pic.twitter.com/H7SxBDlSM3

It's been suggested that "two Saudi clubs" are actively positioning themselves to secure his signing in the forthcoming weeks. Genuardi notes that Digne holds a notably high salary at Aston Villa, and his contract extending until 2026 would result in ongoing substantial expenses for the club. This has reportedly led to him being excluded from their plans, although the exact asking price for his sale remains to be seen.
Although Digne started in the Premier League's opening match against Newcastle United, it appears that this could have marked one of his final opportunities to play for the club, especially with Aston Villa's pursuit of Marcos Acuna.
Aston Villa had invested $33 million to acquire him from Everton in January 2022. Considering that his current Transfermarkt valuation stands at $16 million, it appears improbable that the club will be able to recoup the entirety of the original fee.
#Mercato

At this point, we await the offers that the Saudi clubs will present for the Frenchman's services.
