Ismael Dunga featured for Tosu in his second start for the Japanese side.

Kenyan international Ismael Dunga earned his second starting berth for Sagan Tosu in the 2-1 defeat to Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo as they bid farewell to the Japanese Levain Cup.

Dunga had previously been trusted with a start in the 2-2 stalemate against Kashima Antlers in the Japanese Levain Cup last month.

Sapporo who arrived in the clash having won three games in 12 league encounters this season but have been impressive in cup games opened the scoring through Douglas Oliveira who converted a spot-kick in the 26th minute.

The first half saw little goalmouth action as Sapporo went into the break leading 1-0 with Tosu head coach Kim Myung Hwi introducing Noriyoshi Sakai in place of Francis Ofoedu.

Sapporo Ryota Aoki doubled Sapporo’s lead at the stroke of the hour mark with Dunga being rested four minutes later for Yohei Toyoda.

Yosuke Yuzawa pulled one back for Tosu in the 91st minute but it was a little too late as Sapporo claimed three points.

The defeat leaves Tosu without a win in the Levain Cup and leaves them nine points off the group qualification places with a game to play.

Ayub Timbe

Kenyan international Ayub Timbe completed his first full minutes for Vissel Kobe in the barren draw against Tokyo FC in the Japanese Levain Cup.

Former Barcelona midfielder Andrés Iniesta made his second appearance for Vissel Kobe after suffering an injury back in December.
