The Englishman is trying to return to the football scene — in a very specific way, at the club where he once shined

Former England international Dele Alli has returned to familiar surroundings at Tottenham Hotspur’s training complex as he works on regaining full fitness while searching for his next club. After appearing as a special guest during the recent North London Derby against Arsenal, the 29-year-old midfielder has been allowed to train individually at the club’s Hotspur Way facilities following his departure from Como 1907 last year.

Reports indicate that the free agent has been granted special access to Tottenham’s pitches, where he is carrying out personal training sessions as he prepares for a potential return to professional football. Alli is currently focusing solely on conditioning and match readiness.

Although he is not involved in first-team activities under Igor Tudor, nor training with the academy squads, the midfielder is putting in the work alongside a personal trainer. He recently offered fans a glimpse of his preparations through social media clips showing intense gym routines and pitch workouts. Alongside the video he wrote, "Do what make you happy," a message that quickly attracted encouragement from fellow professionals such as Jack Grealish and Kyle Walker-Peters.

The training return follows an emotional moment earlier this month when Alli was invited back to Tottenham during the derby clash with Arsenal. Despite Spurs suffering a 4-1 defeat, the atmosphere lifted when the former midfielder spoke to supporters at half-time. He thanked them for their loyalty and reminded the crowd that they would always be part of his family, reflecting on the journey that began when he joined the club from Milton Keynes Dons.

The warm reception clearly touched the two-time PFA Young Player of the Year winner, who enjoyed the best years of his career in North London, producing 67 goals and 59 assists in a Spurs shirt. Grateful for the support he received during that period, Alli admitted the affection from fans still feels surreal and emphasized how much it means to him. "I can’t wait to get back on the pitch playing, hopefully it won’t be too long now," he said.

Away from football, Alli has also spoken openly about the difficult experiences that shaped his early life, including the trauma and abuse he endured before being adopted. His honesty about those struggles has earned him admiration across the football world.

Now appearing to be in a far stronger place personally, the midfielder is determined to rebuild his career and prove that he can still perform at a high level. As he continues training at Hotspur Way, speculation about his next destination is growing.

A romantic comeback to Milton Keynes Dons has already been dismissed by the club’s manager as a "crazy season" rumour, but Alli’s pedigree suggests he will not lack options. Some observers believe a move to La Liga could suit him, with clubs like Sevilla FC mentioned as potential landing spots.
