Napoli's president spoke about a potential signing of former Manchester City player

Naples is still celebrating the Scudetto—today the city streets were once again full of people greeting the champions as they paraded through in an open-top bus. And yet, there’s already a new reason for celebration just around the corner…

Napoli fans will surely be pleased to hear what club president Aurelio De Laurentiis had to say today about Kevin De Bruyne.

I believe De Bruyne will join us. From what I’ve heard, he’s even bought a beautiful house in Naples. I had a wonderful conversation with him, his wife, and his son this morning. Is the transfer done? Until the papers are signed, we must be cautious” said the president.

There’s been speculation for weeks about De Bruyne’s potential move to Napoli. The Belgian’s contract with Manchester City has expired, and he’s leaving as a free agent. He also received offers from other Premier League clubs, from Saudi Arabia, and from Major League Soccer in the U.S., but Napoli’s offer seems to be the most attractive. Reportedly, the Belgian will sign a two-year contract worth 5.5 million euros net per season, with an option for a third year. He’ll also receive a 10 million signing bonus. All in all, he’ll earn 21 million net over the next two years. On a gross level, the deal will cost Napoli over 30 million for the two-year period.

What Napoli fans aren’t happy about are the reports that Antonio Conte will leave the club after just one season. He’s reportedly unhappy with some unfulfilled summer promises from De Laurentiis, the sale of Kvaratskhelia in January, and the limited plans for investment this June.

Let the fans stay calm. Napoli will always have the final say. The coach has a valid contract, and if he wants to stay, we’ll be thrilled to continue working together” said De Laurentiis.

A second title in the last three seasons shows that Napoli has stabilized at the top of Italian football.

According to the latest research, we now have 83 million fans worldwide. That number will continue to grow thanks to this title. There was a time when kids in Naples rooted for Juventus, Inter, or Milan. Now they all support Napoli”.

De Laurentiis is often criticized for not investing as much as he could, and this appears to be the main obstacle to continuing the relationship with Conte.

Club finances must always be perfectly in order. If they’re not, then it’s a lie. And if it’s a lie, it’s fraud. I won’t cheat. I apply the same strategy I used in the film industry. I came here after Calciopoli, we’ve made progress, and I think we’ve succeeded” he said.
