The Brazilian also spoke about the infamous 3-4-3 tactics

Since Ruben Amorim left, Manchester United found it‘s winning days and is currently on a five consecutive unbeaten run of games (four wins, one draw) with interim boss Michael Carrick. Much have been said about the Portuguese coach, who came as a long-term project (initiated by the club‘s CEO Omar Berrada) but left after only 14 months in charge after he went publically against the sporting director. The fact that he had only two wins in the last seven Premier League games didn‘t help him either. But now, after he is gone, there is a player who was fair enough to credit his former boss.

Matheus Cunha was one of the players which came to United in June 2025 and is a regular under Carrick too.

“I've always been very grateful for everything Ruben did. I think it's very easy, when things change, to see the past as only problems, but it's quite the opposite; he was an incredible person. Many new players came because of him, so I think he also plays a big part in the success we are having now“ he told DAZN.

The popular and overwhelming opinion is that the major reason of Amorim‘s failure has been a 3-4-3 tactics which he forced and refused to change. But according to Cunha, things are not that easy.

“The pressure for that tactic to work was so great that we forgot how simple the overall context was and focused too much on the negative. But, to be very honest, I think the numerology of football is very misleading. We attack in various ways and end up defending with the formation that everyone says is Ruben's“ explained the Brazilian.
