Comeback battle as Vihiga Queens host Ulinzi Starlets in WPL

The match is set for noon at Mumias Complex.
Both coaches have their fair share of worries, one more than the other, but it will be a race to get back to winning ways when Vihiga Queens host Ulinzi Starlets on Saturday 4 February.
The Women Premier League (WPL) clash has the hosts, Vihiga looking to snap back after their shock 4-1 defeat to former champions Thika Queens.
This was the first loss for the side since their appearance at the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt in 2021 and coach Boniface Nyamunyamu will not want to drop
any more points.
His opposite number Joseph Mwanza is probably under more pressure to deliver a win as his charges have lost back-to-back at home and find themselves in unfamiliar territory on the log.
"Inexperience and complacency cost us crucial points against Thika Queens. With the league drawing closer to the halfway point, we will be keen to maintain our lead. Any more slip ups could be costly.
Ulinzi are a good side and they will be made even more dangerous by their expected zeal not to lose a third consecutive match. We have to be cautious with how we face them," offered Nyamunyamu.
The four-time champions, Vihiga, lead the standings at 16 points, one more than unbeaten Gaspo Women while Nakuru Queens are two points adrift. Bunyore Starlets and Thika Queens are on 12 points completing the top five places after seven rounds.
Mwanza's charges, Ulinzi, find themselves in sixth place, six points behind leaders Vihiga following losses to Nakuru Queens and Wadadia FC in their last two outings.
After the side's loss to Wadadia which he termed 'embarrassing' Mwanza predicted an even tougher test in their next two outings as they face Vihiga and Gaspo next.
"We struggled due to some injuries in our defense in the two matches but we should be in a better place against Vihiga.
Our final third is, however, an area of concern as we are creating chances but our conversion remains unimpressive so far.

I am, however, confident that we will have a good fame against Vihiga. I find it easier to face a team like that as opposed to the other teams," Mwanza offered.
The other match of Saturday pits Trans Nzoia Falcons against Zetech Sparks.
