Can't care less than Boniface - who cares about new club?

Victor Boniface is dealing with yet another injury—and, with it, another failed transfer. Still, the Nigerian doesn’t seem too bothered, as he fired up a video game stream as soon as he returned to Germany

As soon as word came out that Milan had requested further medical checks and seriously doubted his physical condition, it was clear that Victor Boniface’s transfer would be difficult to complete. Two anterior cruciate ligament injuries and a battered knee raised serious concerns for the Rossoneri medical staff.

Although everything had already been agreed (a 3.5 million euros loan with an option to buy next summer for 24 million euros), the seven-time European champions first delayed their final decision by 24 hours on the advice of the doctors—before ultimately pulling the plug.

Boniface was allowed to return to Leverkusen, with reports suggesting that “not all hope was lost” (supposedly, Milan might ask for an amended deal making the loan free of charge). But as soon as the Nigerian striker landed back in Germany, Bayer sporting director Simon Rolfes shut down all speculation.

“As soon as he returned here, that meant the deal was off. That’s no big secret,” Rolfes stated. “Could we restart talks under different terms? Honestly, I don’t think that’s realistic. It won’t happen.”

This is the second time in six months that a transfer for Boniface has collapsed. Back in January, Leverkusen had an agreement with Al-Nassr worth over 60 million euros, only for the Saudi club to suddenly back out and sign Jhon Duran instead.

Still, it seems Victor Boniface wasn’t particularly shaken by the situation he found himself in, as after returning to Germany he fired up a video game stream. Looks like not everything has to be tragic…

Signs that Milan’s deal might follow the same path appeared earlier this morning, when sporting director Igli Tare and coach Massimiliano Allegri arrived at Casa Milan. La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that a series of meetings were held across all levels of the club, with unanimous agreement that urgent action is needed. The experienced coach reiterated an old stance: “If you ask me, the best choice is Dušan Vlahovic.”

Up until yesterday, while Boniface’s situation was still uncertain, Milan’s alternative options were Sporting Lisbon’s Konrad Harder and Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund. But after the defeat to Cremonese and another display of attacking weakness, there is now a realistic possibility that the board will follow Allegri’s advice and refocus on the Serbian striker, who has no future at Juventus.
