BVB present Xabi with a nice farewell gift - four goals in Lever's net

The Dortmund side crushed Bayer on the road 4-2 and kept their UCL hopes alive ahead of the final Bundesliga round

Sometimes, motivation is everything. It's not about the strength or quality of a team - the crew that has what to play for emerges victorious in the end. An example of this phenomenon comes from Germany, where Borussia Dortmund smashed the vice-champions Bayer Leverkusen 4-2.

While Lever were definitely second, BVB have been fighting battles for the Champions League, and as a team with much more motives, Niko Kovac's men prevailed today.

After the peaceful half an hour, the last 15 minutes before the break saw as many as three goals. Jeremie Frimpong put Lever in front, but two Julians - Brandt and Ryerson organized Dortmund's comeback before the break.

Another calm period followed before the new set of fireworks started. In only four minutes - before the 73rd and 77th - Karim Adeyemi and Serhou Guirassy sealed the deal for the visitors, making it 4-1, while Jonas Hofmann closed the gap to two goals in added time.

Even though this game wasn't important to Leverkusen, it was the last match at BayArena for Xabi Alonso, who'll remember his time with Bayer fondly, though his final home clash won't have much room in his memory, that's for sure.
