BVB avoid defeat in Munich and give Lever another life

Reading Time: 2min | Sat. 12.04.25. | 22:11

The Bavarians failed to exploit Bayer's draw against Union Berlin earlier today, as the gap between the two sides remained six points - 2-2

Xabi Alonso's cat with nine lives called Bayer Leverkusen, tonight got another, tenth life - courtesy of Borussia Dortmund. The BVB held back Bayern Munich, which had a chance to increase the gap in front of Lever to eight points and probably seal the deal regarding the Bundesliga title - 2-2.

Even though the crowd at Allianz Arena witnessed four goals, the rivals awaited the break without a single goal in either net, though probably everyone wondered how on Earth Harry Kane missed all the chances he wasted.

And when you miss a lot, the punishment is inevitable. This time, it was embodied in Maximilian Beier, who broke the deadlock only three minutes into the second half, shocking 75,000 people at Bayern's stadium.

Following the opener, Kane kept missing opportunities, but Vincent Kompany had a secret weapon on the bench - Serge Gnabry. The 29-year-old entered the pitch in the 63rd minute and, only two minutes later, was a key factor in the action that brought Raphael Guerreiro's leveller.

But that wasn't the end of the former Arsenal player's show. Four minutes after the equalizer, Gnabry scored himself, bringing his team a complete turnaround and showing that he could be an essential factor in the UCL clash against Inter Milan on Wednesday.

Yet, the Bavarians failed to defend the lead, as BVB's defender Waldemar Anton exploited a corner kick and a melee in Bayern's box to level the score and give a present to Bayer Leverkusen. At the same time, he moved his team closer to the European spots, as the UCL zone is now only six points away from Dortmund, with five rounds to go.
