Bullets out to slice Bidco in their Premier League debut

Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) debutants Vihiga Bullets are aiming for a perfect start when they host Bidco United at Bukhungu stadium, Kakamega in their opening game of the season.

Bullets were one of three teams that were promoted to the FKFPL at the expense of Zoo, Western Stima, and Vihiga United.

Bidco, on their end, will be out to improve last season’s start to the campaign which saw them wait for the sixth game to register their first win.

The two teams are not complete strangers as they have met in the National Super League (NSL) and this should be an interesting encounter.

Following the resignation of coach Edward Manoah, coach Evans Mafuta has been appointed in that capacity and is expected to guide the team to a good start.

Mafuta understands that this will be a crucial game as it could set the team’s mood as they taste Premier League football for the first time.

Despite losing the NSL Most Valuable Player (MVP) Potipher Odhiambo to Kakamega Homeboyz, Mafuta is confident that he has a good team and those that will be given the chance to play will do their best on the field.

“I joined the team on Monday on very short notice. The result in this game will motivate us on what we are planning to do. The players are eager to play and will give their all. I faced Bidco when I was at Nairobi Stima, so they are not new to me. It is their second season in the top league so we will try to handle them in a better way. The players are in good shape. We lost Potipher but that is a good progression for him and those that are here will step up,"

"We have our objectives as a team for this season starting with this game. The top priority is to see the team remain in the top flight at the end of the season,” Mafuta told Mozzart Sport.

First runners up in the defender of the year category in the league last season David Kalama is upbeat that his team will go for the three points against Bullets while at the same time maintaining that they will not undermine them because they are new to the league.

“At the moment the team is top. We have greater unity and we are going for the three points in this game,"

"For a season to be good, you have to start it well. We shall not underestimate Vihiga Bullets just because they have just been promoted. We will tackle them just like we would do with any team in the league. The fact that they got promoted shows that they deserve to be here and we shall approach them by that,” Kalama said.

Bidco’s new signings Gabriel Wandera and Collins Neto could make their debuts for the club after being included in the travelling squad for this assignment by coach Anthony Akhulia.

The match kicks off at 3 PM.
