Dortmund were convincing against Union Berlin with a 3–0 win, cutting the gap after today’s Bayern slip-up
The Yellow Wall suffered a heavy home defeat to Tottenham a few days ago. However, that didn’t shake them much, as they went on to beat Union Berlin 3–0 today as visitors. Emre Can opened the scoring, and the goals that followed came from Schlotterbeck and Beier.
Union Berlin came close to opening the scoring in the 6th minute when Andrej Ilic met a free-kick in the box with a header aimed at the bottom right corner, only to be denied by a brilliant reflex save from the Dortmund goalkeeper.
Dortmund responded quickly, and in the 8th minute a penalty was awarded. Emre Can calmly converted from the spot two minutes later, placing the ball into the bottom left corner to put the visitors ahead.

Fabio Silva nearly doubled Dortmund’s advantage in the 12th minute, turning a cross into a shot from around 11 meters, but Frederik Ronnow was alert to make the save. Dortmund continued to look dangerous, with Jobe Bellingham testing Union’s defense in the 19th minute, only for a defender to block a close-range shot with an excellent intervention.
Union Berlin also had their moments, notably in the 29th minute when Diogo Leite met a corner with a precise header, but Gregor Kobel reacted quickly to keep the ball out of the net. Just before half-time, Fabio Silva tried again for Dortmund in the 45th minute, but his low shot was blocked by Union’s defense.
Early after the restart, Dortmund had two excellent chances to increase their advantage. In the 50th minute, Maximilian Beier was left unmarked on the edge of the box and fired just past the right post, narrowly missing a great opportunity. Three minutes later, Jobe Bellingham unleashed a powerful shot to the left side of the goal, only for Union’s goalkeeper to make an outstanding save.
Dortmund finally doubled their lead in the 53rd minute. Nico Schlotterbeck followed up a corner and, showing perfect awareness, calmly headed the ball into the right corner from close range, making it 2–0.
