Borussia tie Chukwuemeka and Kovac

Both the coach and the loaned player signed permanent deals

Borussia fought long for the signature of Carney Chukwuemeka (21); the tug-of-war with Chelsea lasted nearly two months, but in the end it was settled to the satisfaction of both clubs. The Blues got rid of another burden, a player Enzo Maresca doesn’t count on, raising their earnings from outgoing transfers this summer to 276 million euros (practically offsetting the 279,000,000 spent on arrivals), while Borussia secured the much-desired versatile midfielder who had shown solid performances while on loan last season. Dortmund paid 25,000,000 for Chukwuemeka (including all bonuses), and the contract runs until 2030.

Earlier today at the Westfalenstadion, another signature was announced—Niko Kovač extended his contract with the “Millionaires” until 2027. However, that’s not all from the German club, either for today or in this transfer window. According to reports from journalists following Borussia, another young Chelsea player—Aaron Anselmino (20)—will undergo medical tests today, after which he will sign a one-year loan deal. The Blues did not allow a buy option in this agreement, as they are counting on the Argentine for the future and hope that a year in the Bundesliga will give the young defender both practice and experience for challenges in England. Dortmund has agreed to cover his full salary.

Probably the last move of the former European champion this summer will be Fabio Silva (23). Reportedly, a final agreement with Wolverhampton was reached this morning on a transfer worth 25,000,000, and since the player said “YES” several days ago, there should be no surprises here. Open questions remain about the possible returns of Jadon Sancho and young center-back Charlie Cresswell from Toulouse, but it seems there is neither enough time—nor perhaps enough money—for such big moves in the last five days.
