Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has committed himself to his current club, Bayer Leverkusen. Talking to Sport Bild, the Super Eagles' star left no doubt about where he sees himself in the foreseeable future.
Asked if he wished to remain in Leverkusen, the 24-year-old player said:
"Absolutely. My future is here. From my perspective, it's 100 percent clear that I'm staying. I still have three years left on my contract, I want to win titles with Bayer and have a great season.
"Even when things weren't going so well for me last season, I spoke to [B04 sporting director] Simon Rolfes and told him that I love it here," Boniface continued. "The [January] transfer [to Al-Nassr] didn't work out. It is what it is. I'm here."
Boniface also emphasised the importance of his strikers' partnership with Patrik Shick, with whom Leverkusen also wish to extend.
"Remember our 4-3 win in Stuttgart?" Boniface said. "We played together and had one of the best games of the season. Patrik is a very good friend. We push each other every day. In Belgium, I often played as a deep-lying striker or on the wing, and I did that in Leverkusen too."
Many of Boniface's former teammates have already left the club, just like coach Xabi Alonso. This doesn't seem to bother the African forward too much.
"Of course, I miss my friends Jerry [Jeremie Frimpong], Jona [Jonathan Tah], and Flo [Florian Wirtz]," Boniface noted. "The coach [Xabi Alonso] and some of his assistants and several players have left. But we've also got some good players and a great coach [in Erik ten Hag] who's had a lot of success at Ajax and Manchester United.
"There's always movement in football. That's normal. Some come, some go," Boniface concluded.
