Highly-rated Sharks winger set to undergo surgery after tearing his right leg knee meniscus
The 2020-2021 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) season could be over for Kariobangi Sharks and National U20, Rising Stars winger Patrick Otieno thanks to a torn right knee meniscus.
The enterprising youngster was stretchered off in their 0-0 draw against Ulinzi Stars on January 2 at the Kasarani Stadium and ever since, the former Nzoia Sugar rookie has taken to the backstage.
According to the club’s physiotherapist John Kemboi, Otieno was unfortunate hurt himself while attempting to take on his marker during the match but it would later emerge that he tore his right leg meniscus from what initially appeared a minor injury.
Kemboi said the Bukembe Boys High School alumnus will be sidelined for at least eight weeks after the going under the knife, however he was coy on when he will make it to the surgeon’s table.
“Otieno was diagnosed with lateral meniscus tear of his right knee and partial (low grade) ACL injury weeks after the injury. He was taken off during the Ulinzi game after a discomfort on his knee and the scans later confirmed that he had a first grade tear," he said
He added " We are on the process of booking him for a date with the surgeon and we expect him to be sidelined for an additional eight weeks after the surgery,” he revealed
At the same time, coach William Muluya will be sweating over the unavailability of Patrick Ngunyi who has been confirmed to have damaged his patellar tendonitis. Just like Otieno, Ngunyi will be ruled out for eight to ten weeks after undergoing arthroscopy.
