Blessing in disguise: New PSG has no superstars, but, finally, one ball is enough

Captain Marquinhos is full of praise for his team ahead of the Champions League clash with Girona (Wednesday, 10 pm)

It started with Messi and Neymar, who left last year. Mbappe followed them with his departure during the latest transfer window, and all of a sudden, Paris Saint-Germain are left with no superstars. Just a group of nothing more than excellent footballers. Is that a flaw or maybe a virtue?

The focus has shifted to a collective strength, as Brest's manager Eric Roy noticed after their recent Ligue 1 match. In Mbappe's absence, other players have stepped up with both Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele having strong goal-scoring starts to the season.

Marquinhos, recently re-elected as club captain, has his word on that too ahead of the tomorrow's Champions League clash against Girona at Parc des Princes.

"He is experienced and he knew what he was saying. Even if we don't have big names, we are ready to achieve big things.

"Dembele and Barcola are scoring, are happy, and are confident and that is the most important thing. The manager has led us with the philosophy that he wants for the club. It is an increasingly collective identity."
