Bayer plays the most beautiful football in Europe and Boniface scores again

Reading Time: 3min | Sun. 08.10.23. | 19:16

Xabi Alonso's team won again, this time against Coln 3-0

Never in the 119-year-long history of the club did Leverkusen fans wait for their players to lift the cup intended for the German champion. It is true that only seven rounds have been played and that the season is still in the early stages, but what their team has been playing for two months is a true football rhapsody. Cologne became the latest victim of Xabi Alonso's team. The Capricorns lost at the Bayern Arena 3:0 (2:0), and this duel also confirmed that Victor Boniface is one of the few best purchases of the previous summer transfer window.

Leverkusen toyed with an opponent who, at least at the current moment, was inferior in every sense. The visitors lost all their matches in the previous month, some of them against much easier rivals than today, and it was clear after about thirty minutes that they had nothing to hope for. Spectacular actions were produced by the team of the Spanish coach from minute to minute, and one of these was realized in the 22nd minute. The Pharmacists' attack lasted about thirty seconds, and the executor Jonas Hofmann shook Marvin Schwebe's net from ten meters after the brilliant Florian Wirtz played a return pass to him with the fifth.

Just ten minutes later, a similar situation was seen. The home team's action lasted over 30 seconds, and Frimpong took advantage of the quick-footed Alejandro Grimaldo's run on the left wing, knocking the ball into the goal unhindered from the second post. Victor Boniface was bought this summer for 20,500,000 euros from the Belgian Saint Gilois, and in only seven Bundesliga games this season, he scored the same number of goals. Interestingly, for the entire previous season in the Jupiler League, he gave exactly seven. He did not miss the opportunity to be among the scorers against Koln. In the 66th minute, Hofmann served him the ball, and the Nigerian solved the situation in a similar way as his teammate Frimpong in the first half.

Out of ten games in all competitions, Leverkusen triumphed in nine, with a 2:2 draw at the Allianz Arena against Bayern. He won 19 points out of a possible 21, and he will attack the trophy in the Europa League, where he has a maximum of six points from two rounds. In the past few days, there was talk of Xabi Alonso leaving for Real Madrid, but it is clear that this will not happen before June next year. Until then, it is up to the playing legend to make history at Leverkusen and maybe even bring him that long-awaited title of national champion.
