Teaming up with his once teammate in Ajax de Jong, contryman manager Koeman and possibly Memphis Depay, not to mention Messi and Aguero - it could all re-route de Beek's football upward
What a campaign it was for Ajax back in 2019. Semi-finals of Champions League, eliminating Real Madrid and Juventus, incredible line-up filled with talent: Hakim Ziyech, Dusan Tadic, Matthijs de Ligt, Frenkie de Jong,...
Even though they were eliminated by Tottenham Hotspur in the semis, many of their young prospects found new homes with huge European clubs.
One of them is Donny van de Beek who signed for none other than Manchester United. It all made perfect sense however, since then - it has been a nightmare at the Theater of Dreams for the Dutchman.
According to reports in Spain, the 24-year-old is now desperate to end his Manchester United misery and sees Barcelona as the perfect destination to bring his plans to life.
Representatives of the midfielder made contact with Barca in a bid to find him a new team to play for next season, Sport claim.
Despite joining from Ajax in a 56 million USD (6 billion KSH) transfer last year, van de Beek is unhappy at United as he is playing a marginal role, to say the least.
Being regularly picked behind Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, Fred and Nemanja Matic in the midfield pecking order, van de Beek started just four Premier League games for the Red Devils.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has planted van de Beek to the bench so the Dutchman is seeking for a new environment. Barca came as an idea and he would agree to move to Camp Nou, even if it was a loan deal.
Van de Beek's team-mate from the Netherlands national team Georginio Wijnaldum chose PSG over Barcelona earlier this month and the Spanish giants continued their search for a midfielder.
Before van de Beek chose United last season, Barca had him on their radar. However there is still no official statement from the Catalan club regarding the stagnating midfielder.
