The club's president explained the transfer strategy of the Catalans
A goalkeeper and two wingers—that could be the final list of Barcelona’s signings in this year’s transfer market. From Espanyol, goalkeeper Joan García arrived for 25 million euros, Marcus Rashford was loaned from Manchester United (with a salary around 7 million and a buyout clause of 30 million), and young Swedish talent Roony Bardghji was brought in from Copenhagen for 2.5 million. According to Joan Laporta—that’s it. The president of the Catalan club stated in an interview with Mundo Deportivo that Barcelona will not be making any more signings, except in the case of unforeseen circumstances.
There will be some departures, but even there, no major moves are expected—just the exit of players who were not central to Hansi Flick’s plans last season.
“Our primary goal was to keep last season’s squad, which was historic. We wanted to preserve the team spirit with the players we had, and that’s why we didn’t consider many of the offers we received. The coach asked for more explosive options in attack, and he got them. Meanwhile, Deco’s outlook on what could happen with Ter Stegen (injured again) was key to strengthening the goalkeeper position. Joan García has been spectacular in training, and the fans are going to love him,” Laporta announced.
The club president also has high expectations for the young Bardghji (“He’s an explosive player, the kind you come to the stadium to watch”) but, according to the tradition, some young players from La Masia will also get their chance. Barcelona must be mindful of Financial Fair Play and carefully balance salaries and transfer fees, just like last June.
“We’re trying to save. Pablo Torre has left, and more players will follow, but I don’t expect any major sales, even though we’ve received offers. Departures would disrupt the magic of this team, which the Barcelona fans have fallen in love with” Laporta explained.
