The Serie A side could do a massive favour to the Reds by signing one of the worst reinforcements in their recent history

Liverpool's fans can be absolutely thrilled with their club's transfer window so far, as the Reds "splurged" over €300 million on the arrivals of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Hugo Ekitike. However, the news from Italy could further delight Premier League champions, as they could soon get rid of a major flop.

According to some information from the Boot, Atalanta are keen on bringing Federico Chiesa and are allegedly willing to pay €12 million for him. Ademola Lookman is getting closer to joining Inter Milan by the day, and La Dea's management, led by president Antonio Percassi sees the Italian as a proper replacement.

Chiesa joined Liverpool at the end of the previous June Transfer Window after falling out with Juventus. He then had two options: to find a new club or spend the entire season out of the team. The Reds then appeared as an interested party, paid €12 million and brought the Azzurri international.

Still, his spell at Anfield was so abysmal that he is considered one of the worst reinforcements in Liverpool's recent history. Namely, Chiesa made only 14 appearances with the Reds last season, clocking slightly over half an hour per game. He scored only two goals, one in the EFL Cup and the other in the FA Cup, though he missed more than two months due to a muscle injury.

Anyway, his eventual return to Italy would be a win-win situation for both him and the club. On the one hand, Chiesa could try to revive his career at home, where he played the best football of his life, while Liverpool would get back the money they invested in his transfer last year.
