The Gunners looking close to seal a deal with Lyon over their local boy Houssem Aouar
According to reports, 'Houssem Aouar' project is underway - again. The Gunners were in hot pursuit of the French playmaker last summer but after being turned down several times and asked to pay 62 million USD (6.7 billion KSH) for his services, north Londoners turned their attention to Ghanaian Thomas Partey.
Arsenal have now submitted another bid to Olympique Lyon in order to finally get Aouar with talks between the two clubs believed to be progressing in the right direction for the Gunners.
It has been reported that Lyon are hoping for a deal between just 23.5 million USD (2.5 billion KSH) and 29.5 million USD (3.1 billion KSH).
After missing out on European football altogether last term, the Gunners' transfer budget is restricted this summer - Lyon's valuation of their playmaker will certainly boost Arsenal's optimism.
However, as Aouar's Lyon contract expires in the summer of 2023, several big clubs also showed interest - PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is reported to be a big fan of the 23-year-old while Atletico Madrid have made enquiries also.
Just moments after Aouar was forced to strongly deny 'fake news' that he skipped Lyon's first day of pre-season training to force through a summer transfer - Arsenal's reported bid came in to shake up the market.
However, after the reports emerged, Aouar in fact revealed that he has actually been in hospital with an illness.
'Once again, unfortunately another fake news was published across social media.' Aouar said.
'I don't usually answer what's been said about me… I was sick and hospitalised over the weekend. I am doing much better now and I am ready for what comes next.
'Thank you to those who have always supported me, in the good as well as in the mad moments. Go OL!'
Arsenal are looking to be aggressive for the ongoing transfer window. Numerous players (Benfica's Tavares, Sporting's Tomas, Italy's own Locatelli and Belotti, etc.) are on Arsenal's radar and the Gunners will try and bring more fire power while keeping the best they already have.
