Olunga finished last season as the league's top scorer with 24 goals

Revered Argentine great Hernan Crespo who is now the head coach of Qatari top flight side Al Duhail has heaped praise on the team’s forward line consisting of Kenyan marksman Michael Olunga.

Making the team’s assessment ahead of his first season in the Qatar Stars League (2022/2023), Crespo, who was appointed back in March 2022 to replace Luis Castro who left the club immediately after leading them to cup glory in the 2022 Emir Cup, showered praise to the offensive line which he said will play a pivotal part in his team’s quest to end their two year title drought.

“Al-Duhail has a strong offensive line that does not need much guidance, and I will take advantage of the players' scoring abilities and put them at the service of my team. All players respect our training philosophy, which will greatly facilitate my task,” he is quoted on the club’s website.

In the forward line, Crespo inherits Harambee Stars striker Olunga who finished the 2021/2022 season, his first full campaign, as the top scorer in the league having notched 24 goals, nine clear of his closest challenger in the scoring charts.

Olunga will also be keen to work under the former striker who scored over 200 goals during his hey days representing River Plate, Parma, Lazio, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Chelsea and Genoa.

Crespo however had a poor start to his league campaign as Al Duhail were thrashed 2-4 at home by Al Wakra. Harambee Stars skipper Olunga opened his account for the season as he netted his team’s second goal.

It is a performance they will want to rectify when they face Al Ahl Doha on Thursday.
