The match, was supposed to have been held in Uganda but the hosts do not have a qualified stadium.

Former Harambee Stars head coach Adel Amrouche got a perfect start to his tenure at the Tanzanian national team as he led the Taifa Stars to a narrow 0-1 victory against neighbors Uganda in their Group F 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier played on Friday evening.

In what was his first match in charge since taking over at the start of March, the Algerian tactician galvanized his side to their first victory in the group stage courtesy of a solitary Simon Msuva second half strike that got the job done at the Ismailia Stadium.

In the Group F match that had few clear goal scoring opportunities, Dickson Job’s cross was connected well by Msuva who gave Uganda’s goalkeeper Salim Omar Magoola no chance after 65 minutes.

Earlier Tanzania’s captain Mbwana Ally Samatta missed the target, while Joseph Benson Ochaya’s shot was also blocked by goalkeeper Aishi Manula in the first half.

Uganda Cranes coach Milutin “Micho’ Sredojovic made three changes in the second half, but his team still failed to find the goals.

Amrouche said he was not only happy with the result, but impressed by the display of his team.

“I have only been with this team for a few days and picking this win away from home is a good motivator ahead of our next home match against the same team next week in Dar es Salaam,” he said.
