CECAFA Annual General Assembly will take place on 25 February 2022

The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) is set to meet in Arusha, Tanzania to discuss among other things the 2022 calendar for the region.

According to CECAFA's official portal, Executive Director Auka Gecheo has communicated to member Associations that the Annual General Assembly will take place on February 25, 2022.

The Assembly among other things will confirm the minutes of the extraordinary Assembly held on August 21st in Dar es Salaam, receive, discuss and ratify the CECAFA competitions for the calendar year 2022 and also appoint the host nations for the various tournaments.

Last year CECAFA kick-started the season with the U-23 Challenge Cup in Ethiopia, with the Kagame Club Championship being hosted in Tanzania as Kenya hosted the CECAFA Women’s Club Championship which served as the qualifier for the inaugural CAF Women Champions League, with the CECAFA U-20 Women’s Championship that took place in Uganda where Kenya did not take part.

The 2021 CECAFA Women Senior Challenge Cup scheduled for Djibouti last year did not take place following the decision by the host to pull out of hosting, with Kenya expressing interest in hosting the tourney.

Initially, it was set to be played in December but the hosting issue and budgetary issues as expressed by Gecheo during the CECAFA Women’s U20 Championship saw it pushed forward, with the same most likely set to be part of the discussion later this month.
