Omune picked up the knee problem last season but played through the pain barrier
AFC Leopards have been dealt a major injury blow, with striker Victor Omune set for a spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.
The former Muhoroni Youth and KCB man picked up the problem last season but played through the pain barrier as Ingwe were short of personnel due to the transfer ban that had been slapped on the club by the world football governing body.
Last month, without giving details, coach Tom Juma disclosed that the player carried a ‘bad’ injury and was a long-term absentee but did not disclose anything pertaining to the injury. The player has not been part of the preseason.
He has now taken to social media to announce that he will be out for a minimum of four months. Mozzart Sport understands that the player is due for minor corrective surgery.
"Unfortunately, I’ll miss the start of the season with a knee injury, and I’ll be out for close to 4 months, as the Doctors have said. But I believe I’ll be back better and stronger. Thanks a lot for the love," read the player’s social media post.
Omune rejoined the Leopards in January 2022 and went on to become a key player for coach Patrick Aussems. His good run earned him a call-up to the national team, the Harambee Stars, where he made his debut in March against Iran. He also featured in the friendly games played in Madagascar in June.
Fortunately for Ingwe, they have been cleared to sign new players after entering into a payment plan with their former coach, Aussems. They have already recruited 14 players and will also register five of those who have been with the team for a year but have not been registered due to the sanctions.
New signings
Shawn Daniel Oloo, Aziz Okaka, Humphrey Katasi, Brian Mandela, Vincent Mahiga, Randi Bakari, Gideon Were, Luke Namanda, Boniface Munyendo, Brian Yakhama, Hassan Beja, Yassin Sije, Clifton Miheso, and Kevin Kimani
Unregistered players
Emmanuel Lwanga, Victor 'Aguero' Otieno, Lauren James, Ronald Sichenje, and Abubakar Musha
