AFC Leopards exhilarated after ending scoring duck

AFC Leopards assistant coach Tom Juma was delighted to have Peter Thiong'o on the scoresheet in the 1-0 win over Ulinzi Stars.

After a run stretching to 10 games, AFC Leopards finally won their first game of the season without a goal from Elvis Rupia, a feat that left the assistant coach Tom Juma pleased.

Ingwe sealed maximum points against Ulinzi Stars courtesy of a second-half strike from former Kakamega Homeboyz midfielder Peter Thiong’o.

Leopards had failed to win games against Gor Mahia, Bandari, Wazito and Western Stima in which Rupia failed to get onto the scoresheet.

Juma was delighted to have goals finally coming from different sources with Rupia scoring 10 of Ingwe’s 15 goals this season.

“It is good to see different players scoring, Thiong'o is a good player and that is why he roped him in from Homeboyz, we have been patient with him and asked him to persevere and work for his first goal and getting three points is something special,” said Juma.

The victory also marked the first win for new head coach Patrick Aussems in the league who had a rude awakening after the 2-1 loss to Bandari on Friday.

Juma lauded the boys after their hard-fought win over Ulinzi Stars who suffered only their second league loss but the assistant coach believed the scoreline would have been mightier with clinical finishing.

“Today the boys were composed, we kept the ball which improved our ball possession and we made the opponents run a lot, once you run a lot concentration dips.”

“We created more chances and I believe we would have gotten more than a goal if the final pass and execution of crosses would have been better but we have improved on our performance against Bandari,” he added.

Ingwe next face a daunting task as they travel to face Kakamega Homeboyz in the Ingo Derby on Sunday 28 February.
