In a 2008 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier played on 8 October 2006 in Luanda, Angola, Kenya suffered a 3-1 defeat to the Black Sable Antelopes with Flavia scoring in the 27th and 68th minute and Mateus striking at the hour mark.
Kenya's lone goal, a consolation, was scored by Ambani, then turning out for Indian side East Bengal.
With the two teams having a date today, Thursday, 7 August, in their respective second matches of the ongoing 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), Ambani walked down memory lane in an interview with Mozzart Sport.
“I remember I scored a consolation goal in a tough away loss. It was a difficult game,” said Ambani.
The former Kenya international went ahead to reveal the kind of match that Kenya should expect from the Black Sable Antelopes.
“It is going to be a very tough match. You remember Angola lost against Morocco, and so they will come all out looking for a win so that they can stay afloat.
It is not going to be an easy match, but we can also utilise the spaces behind them when they come all out,” he remarked.
The former Young Africans (Yanga) striker also disclosed two approaches that can make Harambee Stars emerge victorious in the match.
“They just need to be confident, and we have the biggest advantage of playing at home, so we just need to give our fans the best.
We must convert our early chances. If we get two or three chances, we must bury at least one of them,” he said.
“We also need to take the match to Angola. We are at home, we do not have to sit back and hope to catch them on the break. Let us take the war to Angola,” he added.
The former Tusker FC man also took time to leave a message of support and solidarity to the Harambee Stars fans.
“I wish the team all the best. They are our boys, they just need to concentrate from the first minute and above all, together with all Kenyans, I wish them all the best and I expect them to win.”
