Whether they can make the most of the remaining ten matches to finish in the top three remains a pipe dream, but not at all impossible
FC Talanta, have found the going tough in the National Super League (NSL) since dropping from the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) last season.
Languishing in the mid-table, far off the top where one would expect them to be given their history in the division, Talanta’s lukewarm results do not help either.

A 2-1 dispatching of bottom side Mwatate last time out, however, inspires, but just a little.
Whether they can make the most of the remaining ten matches to finish in the top three remains a pipe dream, but not at all impossible.
At least this is what their newest midfielder, Brian Abich, thinks.
Abich, brought in during the mid-season transfer window from Kibera Black Stars, says the NSL is just that, very competitive, and even three consecutive losses can take one out of the top four and into the bottom half of the table.
Three back-to-back wins, on the other hand, can have the opposite effect, and this is the fact he and the teammates intend to bank on as the league enters homestretch.
"The NSL is always competitive, but this season has been extra-competitive. You blink once and you drop a couple of places. Since joining Talanta, we didn’t quite register the fairest of results, but I believe the result we got from our last time out can inspire the team to maintain a sharp focus in finishing in the top three because it is possible,’’ says the talented 21-year-old.
Brought in mid-way through March, Abich’s welcome would be against league leaders Migori Youth, who felled Talanta 3-1, a more than rude welcome for the midfielder who had started from the bench.
Next up would be his former side and despite being started, he couldn’t ward off his former employers, falling 2-1.
A third loss to promotion-chasing Equity FC by a two-goal margin was enough for Abich to take, and by then, he says he had fully settled into the team.
‘’It’s never easy settling into a new team, especially if you join in the mid-season. The league is always ongoing and there is little to no time to adjust. I thank God for the back-to-back matches the coach entrusted me to start, even if we lost, because how else would I have settled in?’’ Abich contemplates.
The 2025/26 NSL season has mostly been a two-horse race at the very top with Mozzart Bet-sponsored Migori Youth trading pole position week in week out with another well funded side, Mombasa United.
The two currently tie at the top with 58 points after 28 rounds of matches, with Youth occupying first on superior goal difference.
Talanta are a massive 18 points behind in 9th place. They, however, will take solace in the fact that they are just 13 below this place, Equity, and football, as Abich puts it, can present the most fantastic of surprises.
He says it’s not over yet.
‘’I haven’t played professionally for long, but I’ve seen and experienced enough to know that between now and the end of the season, a lot can happen. For us, it’s only a matter of focus and firm belief that we can turn things around. We already have our scoring boots back on and are therefore ready to finish as high as possible. If we end up in the top three, the better because at the end of the day everyone wants to play at the top level,’’ concludes the midfielder who has been in the ranks of Shabana FC in the Premier League.
Abich and company next travel to a beleaguered MCF side for their April 18th contest, a round 29 from which a scoop of the full share of spoils will definitely put them on course for the strong finish the midfielder envisions.
